As like many, I have many concerns about the issues facing many in The City of Greater Bendigo regarding flooding.
But we can not just have a blanket ban of development in flood zones.
And yes more, much more needs to be done to address these issues. Policy changes must be made.
.
Flooding has been a long-standing issue in Epsom, Ascot, and Huntly, may have been made worse by new developments. And as we know, Recent heavy rains have prompted calls for stricter controls and better flood mitigation.
Why Policy Changes Might Be Needed:
- Community Safety:
- Recent floods have increased awareness of flood risks. We need to ensure our policies protect homes and lives.
- Environmental Maintenance:
- Regular creek maintenance is crucial. Current policies might not fully address this, leading to more flooding issues.
- Economic Impact:
- Flood damage is costly. Preventative measures can save money in the long run.
- Community Trust:
- Responding to community concerns helps build trust. We need policies that reflect community needs.
- Proactive Risk Management:
- Better planning and risk assessment can prevent future problems, ensuring sustainable development.
