Flood Warning & emergency relief centre at the Bendigo Showgrounds

The City of Greater Bendigo has set up an emergency relief centre at the Bendigo Showgrounds for anyone affected by the torrential rain which hit the city on January 7.

The emergency relief centre has been opened for those who can no longer stay in their homes and only impacted residents are to attend the relief centre, if it is safe to get there.

If you cannot travel, please contact the SES on 132 500 or 000 if it is an emergency.

The City is telling people to note that the relief centre cannot accept donations of clothes, goods or food.

Bendigo was hammered with 91.8mm of rain in the last 24 hours as of 7:30am on January 8.

 

A flash-flooding watch and act alert has been issued for East Bendigo, warning people to avoid low-lying areas, stay indoors, avoid driving through floodwaters and be aware of the potential for heavy rain to cause landslides and debris on the roads. Emergency services have received multiple requests for assistance, including from White Hills, Strathdale, Kennington, East Bendigo, Junortoun, Strathfieldsaye, California Gully and Golden Square and Redesdale.

VicEmergency advises many homes have become isolated by floodwater and

roads or bridges may be impacted.

According to VicRoads' road closure map, Napier St/Midland Highway is cut between Weeroona Ave, just north of Lake Weeroona, and Knight St, a block away.

Also completely impassable is the Wimmera Highway west of Marong from the Calder
